Honda is renowned for its pioneering automobiles and technical prowess. Its product portfolio boasts of some of the aesthetically designed and technologically advanced sedans, hatchbacks and SUVs. One such hatchback is the Jazz. Internationally, Jazz aka Fit was launched in the year 2001 and sold over 5.5 million units worldwide. In these 14 years, the model saw two lifecycle makeovers, the last one being released in Japan in the year 2013. However, the Indian innings of the car has not been very impressive. The two factors that went against the previous generation of Jazz were - first, the unavailability of a diesel model and second, the high pricing.
The Japanese automaker is all set to launch the new 2015 Jazz this coming July 8th with hopes of touching new milestones with the next-gen hatch. The Jazz would not meet its bad fate this time like the previous one since the company is launching a diesel unit of the hatch. In addition, the premium hatch will come with high level of localisation, which would make its price competitive.
The company claims that the new-generation Jazz will deliver a mileage of 27.3km/l, thus making it the second most fuel-efficient car in the country after Celerio diesel. All these reasons will definitely add up in favour of the new Jazz slated to be launched soon. The company has been running teasers of the new entrant on their website to draw attention of the prospective buyers.
The hatchback has been spied quite a few times that reveal an impressive exterior design and technologically sound interiors. The exteriors boast an aerodynamic design along with an attractive front fascia. The front portion comes with a black slatted radiator grille coupled with a horizontally positioned chrome strip. A bright headlight cluster surrounds the grille that is anticipated to come fitted with high intensity headlamps and side turn indicator. The side profile is enhanced by a set of new alloy wheels fully covered with tubeless tyres. The exterior comes with body coloured door handles and external wing mirrors.
The spy shots of the interiors reveal a spacious cabin with a wide distance between the two rows of seats. The hatch might come with two-toned colour scheme with a multi-functional steering wheel with integrated control buttons on it. The centre console and the dashboard could get some chrome accents for added class while the cushioned seats come with integrated headrests. The scoring point of Jazz comes with its class-leading legroom, especially for the rear passengers.
Other comfort features include automatic air conditioning unit, all four power windows, sun visors, foldable rear seat for an increased boot space and much more. The top end variant is expected to get a 6.2-inch touchscreen unit with integrated DVD and MP3/AUX/USB/Bluetooth and iPod connectivity. The display doubles up as the reverse camera and screen for navigation system. On the other variants, the buyers can look forward for a 5-inch non-touchscreen audio system with all other functions except the DVD and navigation system.
The new generation Jazz is to be launched in two variants in the country-a 1.5 litre i-DTEC diesel unit and a 1.2 litre i-VTEC petrol unit. The diesel unit is rumoured to be the same that powers the City, Amaze and Mobilio that churns out 99bhp of maximum power and 200Nm of peak torque. The petrol variant will churn out 88bhp of max power with 110Nm of peak torque. While the engines remain inspired from its siblings, the company has decided to give an almost 8% increase in the gear ratios in order to increase the fuel efficiency. The company will give transmission options of a 6-speed manual (diesel), 5-speed manual and a 5-speed automatic CVT (petrol).
Once it arrives in the market, the new Jazz will compete with the likes of Hyundai Elite i20, Fiat Punto Evo, Ford Figo, Volkswagen Polo, Maruti Swift and others in the hatchback segment. With so many impressive features, a diesel unit and an expected price bracket of INR 5 lac- INR 8 lac, it is just a game of wait and watch whether the new Jazz will be worth cancelling your cheque for the Hyundai Elite i20 or the Volkswagen Polo.
